The festival brings together reindeer herders, fishermen, hunters, and local folk art masters from the Khanty-Mansi and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrugs. For them, this holiday is an opportunity to meet with relatives, show their prowess in competitions, and also bring folk craft products for sale.

Every year, this bright, distinctive festival attracts thousands of guests from different cities of Russia and abroad. Guests of the gathering have the opportunity to try national dishes of the northern peoples - venison, fish soup cooked over a fire according to Khanty recipes. Participants of the holiday can learn about the traditional life of indigenous peoples in the guest chum (tent). There you can also take a photo for memory in national clothing. At the gathering, a fair of traditional crafts operates, where you can buy various souvenirs - fur clothing and shoes, reindeer skins and antlers, traditional jewelry, bone souvenirs, fish, national delicacies from taiga berries. The concert program is dedicated to the traditions of the Khanty and Mansi peoples. Also at the gathering, a "Best Khanty Family" contest, a fashion show in national clothing, and various sports competitions are held. The organizers of the gathering pay great attention to maintaining the traditional sports of the small-numbered northern peoples. At the festival, competitions in northern all-around, reindeer sled races, throwing a tynzyan (lasso) on a khorey (a pole used to drive a reindeer team), and jumping over sleds take place.

The most important and significant event of the holiday is the reindeer races. The indigenous people prepare for it all year. These races for locals are not only an opportunity to show their reindeer but also a chance to fight for the main prize - a new Buran snowmobile. The festival is supported by oil-producing companies of the Surgut district, the city of Kogalym. With their help, the track for the race is prepared, and gifts for participants are purchased - chainsaws, sleds, boats, and generators.
