Reindeer Herder's Day is held annually in order to express respect for the indigenous population of the land on which the city now stands. The traditional holiday of the indigenous peoples of the North gathers families from the most remote territories of the district. For reindeer herders, this holiday is a good opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities and achievements.

A trade fair opens for the guests of the holiday, where Khanty craftsmen present souvenirs and national dishes of the small peoples of the North.

Competitions in national sports are held – national wrestling, tug-of-war, sled jumping, triple national jump, ski relay, throwing tynzyan (lariat) on a horey (wooden pole). One of the most spectacular events of the holiday is the reindeer sledding race. Traditionally, the holidays are accompanied by a concert and entertainment program with the participation of the best creative teams of the city.
