At the foothills of the Circumpolar Urals on the banks of the northern Lyapin River there is a tiny village of Saranpaul. It was founded by reindeer herders – Zyryans. Saranpaul is a traditional land of reindeer herders. Driving a reindeer team is taught here since childhood. The Northern peoples honor their traditions. Once every 2 years, at the end of February, a holiday is held here — the "Olympiad of Reindeer Herders".

The celebration of this event plays an important role in preserving the culture and way of life of the indigenous peoples of the North.

Participants will face difficult tests in 5 types of reindeer sledding competitions – these are races at a trot, in one fell swoop, standing on sleds, skiing for deer and on deer skin. Women compete separately.

For the guests of the Olympiad, a tasting of local cuisine is held in the national dwellings of the indigenous peoples of the North – chums, shopping malls with products from local manufacturers are presented, a concert and children's program is also held.
