Every third Saturday of October, the city of Langepas celebrates the bright national holiday "Bear Games", dedicated to the International Days of Finno-Ugric Peoples. This event traditionally brings together representatives of the Khanty and Mansi peoples, who honor the special relationship with the bear as a sacred animal and symbolic brother of man.
According to ancient beliefs, a bear hunted continues to live after death, becoming an honored guest in the hunter's home. Therefore, this holiday is perceived as a joyful event, accompanied by special ceremonies and entertainment.
The holiday program is divided into several significant stages:
Ritual actions: including worship of the bear spirit and special rituals aimed at respecting the animal and maintaining harmony with nature.
Concert and game programs: presenting national songs, poems, dances, and games reflecting the unique features of Khanty and Mansi culture.
Gastronomic enjoyment: visitors are invited to taste traditional northern dishes such as fish soup, homemade bread, pies, and delicious herbal tea.
Sports competitions: participants compete in strength, agility, and endurance, demonstrating skill in ancient sports disciplines.
Master classes and exhibition-sales: allowing guests to immerse themselves in the world of artistic craftsmanship and acquire memorable handmade souvenirs from local artisans.
This unique holiday preserves the ancient traditions and customs of the indigenous peoples of the North, contributing to the preservation and popularization of distinctive culture.
