The Big Fish Festival on Kizhi Island is timed to coincide with Fisherman's Day and is dedicated to fishing traditions and related traditional crafts, as well as fish dishes. Since ancient times in Karelia, people have said, «Better without bread than without fish.»
Participants of the Big Fish Festival include guests of Karelia, fishermen-residents of the villages of the Kizhi region, masters of traditional crafts, and «masters» of traditional national cuisine.
Traditionally, a bright part of the festival is kila — an old Russian men's game. Why kila is related to the fish theme, you will learn at the festival.
Come, Kizhi Island is waiting for you!
The festival has no age restrictions. Admission to the event is free (a museum entrance ticket is paid), on some platforms paid master classes and paid catering services provided by museum partners are offered.
